St John's Road Reserve Blood & Courage Shiraz 2023
Possessing more polish than its little sibling , this St John's Road Reserve Blood & Courage Shiraz is commendable and will find its people. Curiously, there is little detail about the vine age or calibre of the vineyard, so the $90 price point is a hard sell. From what I've seen, although it is a good enough wine, it rests uncomfortably (in my opinion) with those big dollars beside its name. I can only review what details I have at hand and what's in the glass, so here goes... Firm with a respectable length, dark plums and black cherries drive the fruit profile. Cured meats, charcoal and earthy vibes are partnered by woodsy and barbecue rub spices. Dusty, chewy tannins bring it home and elevate the interest factor. Drinking well over a couple of days, I'd suggest decanting now, but this will age comfortably for a decade+ 93/100 Region: Barossa RRP: $90 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedI

East Dallas Brewing Co. no longer in development
Image credit: East Dallas Brewing Co. The principals behind the highly-anticipated East Dallas Brewing Co. have decided to cease development on the venture which had targeted the city's popular Lower Greenville neighborhood. First announced in early 2024 by a founding group consisting of John Mitchell, Michael Stone and Andrew Huerter, the company had begun to introduce itself by way of collaborations with Lakewood Brewing Co. and Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery, both of Garland. From there, East Dallas last poured preview beers at the 2025 Big Texas Beer Fest. As for the future, Huerter currently has eyes on a new beer project, the details of which will be revealed once due diligence has been completed. Prior to more recent stints with Oak Highlands Brewery of Dallas and Rahr & Sons Brewing Co. of Fort Worth, Huerter was the head brewer at BrainDead Brewing of Dallas, which closed in November 2021.

Zodiac series: Clynelish, Glenlossie, Laphroaig, Croftengea
The Whisky Exchange presented a second quartet of whiskies from the Zodiac series . We tried four whiskies in February already - after this one more batch will follow. My own sign turns out to be translated as Clynelish... Clynelish 10 yo 2015 (52,8%, The Whisky Exchange 'The Zodiac' 2025, bourbon barrel #51246, 255 btl.) Nose: lots of crisp green apples and lemons, candle wax, along with subtle vegetative undertones. Light chalk. Perhaps a little pineapple or yellow plum. Then a little icing sugar and sweet cucumber lemonade. Mouth: a simple but very enjoyable combination of sweet and tart fruits (kiwi, banana, apple, gooseberry) with beeswax and a pinch of pepper. The cask made it a bit sweeter than I expected, but also really pleasant. Plain malty notes. Hints of vanilla and grapefruit. Finish: medium long, with added zesty notes and a subtle grassy touch along with sweet wax.Still young, so complexity is not the highest. That said, it's a perfectly lovable spirit with all the

E' buono, bello, elegante e piacerebbe pure a Diderot.

Trading Brew Decks
Within the beer industry its not uncommon to see blue collar brewers trading places regionally, across the country, or even internationally. On a micro scale, even Portland’s tight-knit beer industry see’s fairly frequent change of Brewers between local companies, but as of late there has been more notable brewing position shifts than usual resulting in an interesting and exciting shuffling of the deck. Nate Rajski at the 2026 Oregon Beer Awards Nate Rajski , was head brewer at StormBreaker Brewing where he has worked for the past 7 years, has accepted a newly created head brewer role at St. Helens, Oregon’s Crooked Creek Brewery . Rajski decided to make the move to be closer to his home in Scappoose and a change of pace. Crooked Creek owner and brewer Dave Lauridsen is handling the growing business as their restaurant and taproom gets busier and St. Helens becomes more popular and needed some help in the brewery. “Crooked Creek keeps a very well rounded taplist these days, always havi

Oak & Stone opens first Texas franchise in McKinney
Photos © Brian Brown/Beer in Big D. A new craft kitchen with "loaded taps" is encouraging patrons to make pour decisions, now that it's open in a recently-built retail center at 8575 W. University Dr. (U.S. 380) in McKinney. First founded in 2015, Oak & Stone is a Florida-based concept under the Artistry Restaurants banner featuring a self-pour tapwall experience. As of now, the company has eight locations in Florida, with McKinney being the first one established in Texas. It won't be the last, though, since another locale is set to open later this year in Addison. A sign declaring that "Beer Tastes Better in McKinney" is the first thing you'll notice when entering the new North Texas spot, which consists of around 6,000 square feet. Seating options are split between the indoor public space, and a covered patio section outdoors. On the consumables, the food menu at Oak & Stone has an elevated pub grub feel (apps, wings, pizzas, burgers/handhelds, salads), but the centerpiece of
