The wines of DOQ Priorat & DO Montsant 2026
With what appears to be the earliest harvest on record just about everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s time to take a look at two of the leading regions in Spain, DOQ Priorat and DO Montsant as well as their well as their respective Tasting Reports here and here. I won’t mince words as it’s a rather crucial time in their evolution as regions. It’s not unfair to say that things aren’t easy for wine producers in general and being a region in Europe that produces predominantly red wines with […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription.

Video AdVINEture: Priorat, Spain
Our first trip to Priorat was everything we’d imagined and more: dramatic landscapes, unforgettable wines, and some of the warmest hospitality we’ve experienced anywhere in the wine world. This corner of Spain may be globally revered by wine lovers, but it still feels wonderfully untouched and deeply authentic. Here’s a look at the people, places, […] The post Video AdVINEture: Priorat, Spain appeared first on Advinetures.ca .

Clos Figueras: Defining the Modern Priorat
It’s difficult to imagine, standing among Priorat’s steep, slate-covered vineyards, that this severe landscape was once considered expendable. By European standards, its ascent has been unusually fast. Today, the region’s wines command global attention, and its slopes are a big draw for collectors and sommeliers alike. Clos Figueras sits at the heart of this transformation […] The post Clos Figueras: Defining the Modern Priorat appeared first on Advinetures.ca .

Looking back at Priorat 2021
It’s hard to imagine, but the Northern Hemisphere’s harvest of 2021 was nearly half a decade ago now. Yeah, I know. Clearly, the quantity of water that flowed under the figurative bridge since then has been, immeasurable… But due to all the world events and torrent of information thrown our way, it’s easy to miss things that are, for most people, not terribly important, such as the various vintages passing in wine regions. And given a justifiably-limited amount of attention span, I feel that there are only a few ‘bookmark’ […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription.

Celler Cal Pla: Tradition in Motion
In a region celebrated for its modern renaissance, this 245-year-old family estate reflects what Priorat has always been. The cobblestones beneath our feet are worn smooth by centuries of harvest traffic. On our left stands a stone building more than 300 years old; on our right, its younger sibling from 1850, built because the family […] The post Celler Cal Pla: Tradition in Motion appeared first on Advinetures.ca .

Celler Gritelles: A Measured Approach
Dr. Xavier Estivill was our first stop on what would be a single, tightly packed day in Priorat. In hindsight, there was no better place to begin. We met him in one of his vineyards above Cornudella de Montsant, where he quickly set the tone, walking us through the site’s soils, elevation, and exposure in […] The post Celler Gritelles: A Measured Approach appeared first on Advinetures.ca .

24 hours with Albert Jané
Our day’s trip to visit Albert Jané, winemaker on the northeast coast of Spain, comprised a whistlestop tour of his four different projects: Acústic in Montsant, Ritme in Priorat and Autòcton and Mas Vilella, both based around his family home in Tarragona. The tempo of our visit offers a reflection of how Albert approaches his […]
