My French Red Wine Picks at the Vancouver International Wine Festival 2026
I spent Friday afternoon at the Vancouver International Wine Festival 2026 tasting French red wines. Here are my favourite French wines from the International Festival Tasting Room. There is a fairly even distribution of red wines from different regions of France (and therefore different varietals) in my picks below. Enjoy. My French Red Wine Selections Castel Frères Exclusive Aspirant de...

Burgundy, Demystified: Why I’m Starting This Journey
Burgundy has a reputation—and in many ways, it has earned it. At its finest, Pinot Noir from Burgundy can be extraordinary: nuanced, layered, and capable of expressing place with a level of precision that few wines achieve. It is also, … Continue reading →

Pierre Paillard Bouzy Grand Cru Les Parcelles XXI Review
After returning home from our trip to Champagne, we, naturally, started buying more Champagne. This wasn't so much because we didn't buy a lot while there (we did), but rather that many top producers were readily available to us at home- often not for much more than we could buy them in France. So we ... Read more

Burgundy’s Quiet Shift: From Extraction to Infusion
Why many Burgundian winemakers are stepping back in the cellar to reveal Pinot Noir’s true character. Across Burgundy, a subtle change is taking place. Instead of extracting more from Pinot Noir, many winemakers are discovering that patience in the cellar … Continue reading →

2-Day Pinot Noir Lover’s Itinerary in Paso Robles
Paso Robles grows serious Pinot Noir, and most visitors have no idea. While the region’s reputation rests on Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Rhône varieties, a network of dedicated producers — more than 24 strong — crafts Pinot Noir from some of California’s most distinctive cool-climate pockets. The secret is the Templeton Gap, a series of […]

A Day at Champagne Vaucelle Remembered at Apéro #worldwinetravel
World Wine Travel Writers Reminisce Over Summer SipsThis month, our World Wine Travel writers are remembering travel moments over a glass of wine and “nibbles”. In France, late afternoon is apéro time, where we do just that. I’m thinking about a trip to the more rural Côte des Bar of Champagne this spring, just before … Continue reading →

Pinot at your place?
Staying-in is still the new going-out, as we want to share occasions with good friends, just as we would if we were heading out to a bar or restaurant. However, whilst we may wish to offer a range of wines when visitors come round, no one wants to end up with a raft of half empty bottles! The Corkscrew Concierge’s (In)Conspicuous Consumption June 2025
These days, it’s hard to figure out how best to share the interesting and amazing wines that I have the privilege to enjoy. Wines that resonate with me that I think others would enjoy. Back in the day, you’d do an Instagram post with great photography and it would get tons of views and some conversation. Now you have to dance, have a full blown conversation, or do whatever the theme of the day is. I still just want to talk to people about wine. I don’t want to have to dance. So, I’m talking about and sharing some great wines from the past month here, most of which feature 2 pillars that are important to me - family-owned wineries and those that emphasize sustainability. This isn’t everything we drank, but these are worth spreading the word… It’s always cool to look back on places you’ve visited when you grab a bottle from the store. Winzer Krems was a standout during a trip to Austria.

Lo Hon Chai
I’ve been doing a lot of reading and thinking, interspersed with conversations with Chat GPT. What else would you call it. . . I ask questions, the AI responds, I ask follow up questions, it’s a deeper and more intimate dialogue than I would have with most people. It’s tangential and at times scatalogical. I ask about Lo Hon Chai, Buddha’s delight, and it makes suggestions. It’s a Lunar new year dish, signifying purity or cleansing, designed to nourish without inflaming desires. . . I look at the ingredients and wonder about the flavours, it seems very bland - but it works - there’s a poise and gentle balance . . . Lo Hon means Arhat, an adept who has obtained Nirvana. . . I always thought the original number was 4, but the Chinese inflated it to 10, then 16 and finally 18. . . . A pair of recent books both containing the word Golden in their title. The Golden Road - by William Dalrymple and The Golden Wok - by Diana Chan. From the first I learn about the Indosphere and how

F/W 24′ Profile: Bucher Wines
My time with the Buchers explained why I like their wines as much (and in some cases more so) than other’s Bucher Vineyard designates. The vineyard is, after all, theirs, and it shows. I can appreciate why Bucher is a favorite insider's wine of diligent Russian River Valley pinot lovers. The post F/W 24′ Profile: Bucher Wines first appeared on Good Vitis .

F/W 24′ Checking In: Merry Edwards
I asked Chat GPT to list the most reliable things in the world. F/W 24′ Checking In: Morét Brealynn
A common theme about her wines is that Morét seems to be happening into these phenomenal outcomes. In her third vintage, frankly, I’m seeing through the humility.
