Finca La Igriega focusses on local Identity in Paraje Altamira, Argentina | Britt on Forbes
Mendoza in Argentina has made a huge success of growing malbec and selling it to the world. It started at the end of the 1980s. Malbec from Argentina became a brand. For a while, everyone was happy, producers as well as consumers. But things have changed. The grape is no longer enough. Now, ambitious producers […] Continue reading: Finca La Igriega focusses on local Identity in Paraje Altamira, Argentina | Britt on Forbes The post Finca La Igriega focusses on local Identity in Paraje Altamira, Argentina | Britt on Forbes was originally published on BKWine Magazine and written by Britt Karlsson . Two French Red Blends: Chateau Daviaud and M. Chapoutier Belleruche_PR SAMPLE
I recently decided to review two French red wines that are blends. Blends have the benefit that two or more grape varieties together fill in the weakness of the other grape. For example, one grape may be fruity but lack tannins, while another grape has plenty of tannins but lacks much fruit character. Putting the two grape varieties together makes...

St Johns Wine Round Puzzle Cabernet Malbec Merlot 2022
Bold and unapologetically rustic, this Bordeaux-style blend offers power and savoury depth in equal doses. Opening with a rush of drunken plums, ripe blackberries and evocative Black Forest cake, savoury notes of charred wood, barbecue smoke and crushed granite build anticipation. Firm and muscular to taste, the dense fruit is wrapped in a sheet of tense, dusty tannins. Structured rather than plush, layers of black pepper spice and charcoal peer through the mid-palate. Some granite-like minerality adds detail, offering tension and focus that carries through to a dry, gripping finish. Sit this beside a slab of protein and you're winning. It's nicely done. 91/100 Region: Blackwood Valley RRP: $40 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedIn and X

Nannup Estate Firetower SMT 2022
I recently received a few wines from the Blackwood Valley's Nannup Estate as I explore the district from the comfort of my east coast abode. Two wines down from this producer and they've delivered two rippers. This Shiraz Malbec Tempranillo nails the brief for great drinking. No information was received about the percentages in the blend, but that almost seems irrelevant when the going is good and the delish factor is high. Crushed purple petals set the tone. It's a wine with a rustic presence but polished with bevelled edges. Plums, mulberries and blueberries offer plenty of interest and depth with black earth and a notable minerally vibe. A faint eucalyptus note raises its hand with a neat dusting of dark chocolate crumb. Tense tannins soften over a couple of days. Built for food, it will take down some robust protein with ease. A terrific blend and rock-solid example of pleasure all for 28 bucks. 92/100 Region: Blackwood Valley RRP: $28 Source: Sample Winery

Nannup Estate Rolling Hills Malbec 2022
Smart drinking. A Malbec with great fruit and shape, find me a cozy place on a cold night and a generous glass. Plush plummy fruit leads the way with ripe mulberries and hints of blueberries framing the edges adding lift. Beneath the fruit lies an earthy core threaded with fruit bun spices that cling to a persistent finish. Dusty and cocoa tannins are tense and add some chew. Thoroughly enjoyable, this is great stuff. 92/100 Region: Blackwood Valley RRP: $38 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedIn and X

Malbec grape and wines
Guide to the Malbec Grape & its wines Malbec, Argentinian Malbec in particular, is one of the most popular red wines in the UK. It was long considered one of the ‘beefiest’ red wines and became a staple house wine for many pubs and restaurants, initially increasing its popularity. That may however have come at a cost as public perception of the quality of Malbec seems to be in decline. This blogpost looks into the reasons for Malbec’s popularity, explores facts about the Malbec grape that account, in part, for the wine’s different aromas & flavours and for the different styles of Malbec wine. It also considers if quality has become an issue for ‘brand Malbec’ and covers which food is best consumed with Malbec. The Malbec grape Although the Malbec grape is the flagship grape of Argentina, it originated in the area of South West France around the city of Cahors, east of Bordeaux and north of Toulouse. It is also known in that area and in the Loire where a little is grown as Côt or Auxerr

Shiraz, mostly
Penfolds Koonunga Hill Seventy Six Cabernet Shiraz 2006 . Opens hard and abrasive, but softens in time. Spiced Christmas pudding and shellac. Stylistically true to the house. I think this was the first release of the Seventy Six. I've written about it before . . . Then as now - I wonder - How finely/cynically can you segment the market when you ultimately offer only one sort of (red) wine - something dense, full, warm and old fashioned. . . SC Pannell Adelaide Hills Syrah 2012 . The 2013 edition went on to win the Jimmy Watson. This would be a tricky wine in a 100% blinded line up. It has a DMS / über black currant nose; thankfully I spotted the Burgundy bottle, bringing my formulation back to cool climate Shiraz. . . Full and plump, cherry ripe, with lovely fine inky tannins. Wolf Blass Black Label 2002. Shiraz, Cabernet and Malbec. Barossa and Langhorne Creek. From my cellar. Cork (50% stained). A whiff of glue and v/a to start, but then it's all lush oak (there's F
