Produttori’s Barbaresco: ‘Spectacular. Lustrous. Mouth-watering’
Produttori’s Barbaresco has to be one of the best reds and ‘greatest values in Italian fine wine’. Their 2021 is mind blowing. The energy here is tangible. This medium-bodied, 100% Nebbiolo shows violets, roses, black cherry, raspberry and spice with a nice mineral kick on the nose. The sleek palate is sumptuous and full of […] The post Produttori’s Barbaresco: ‘Spectacular. Lustrous. Mouth-watering’ appeared first on Wine Cellar Plus .

Wine & Tourism in Sicily: Benanti Winery Shows the Way
Sue and I have just returned from a trip to Sicily. We went as tourists — Sicily is one of the few regions of Italy we haven’t visited until now — but you can be sure that wine was always on our minds. Sicily’s Tourism Boom We were not alone. Tourism is booming in Sicily, […]

The Random Samples—5/8/2026
It is time for another edition of “Random Samples”–I occasionally get samples from marketing agencies and/or producers. These can often be grouped together into some sort of overarching theme: Muret-Gaston is French for Old Friends (not really, but it should … Continue reading →

Maculan & Tenuta Biserno: Italian Wine Beyond the Stereotypes
Breganze and Bibbona. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. These are not necessarily the first things that come to mind when you think about wines from Italy. But, to paraphrase Walt Whitman, Italian wine is large; it contains multitudes. Embrace stereotypes at your peril. Sue and I were fortunate to be invited to taste the wines […]

Inside Vinitaly: Secci & the Shifts Shaping Wine
Vinitaly is one of the world’s most important trade fairs. This year, Indian wine producer Fratelli Vineyards’ co-founder-director Alessio Secci was there on a special mission: to take two Indian sommeliers on a trip around Italy and the trade fair. The Elevation of Appetite
At 2,010 meters above sea level, the first thing that changes is your breathing. The second is your appetite. By the time you are standing outside a mountain hut with a glass of Blauburgunder in hand, something else has shifted too. The wine tastes different up here. In December, I went to Alta Badia, a small, jagged pocket of Südtirol-Alto Adige, with skis, a notebook, and a question. Nestled among the villages of San Cassiano, La Villa, Corvara, and the Campolongo Pass, the region is defined by its verticality, snow, and fine cuisine. Every year, as the ski season starts,...

The Alpine Wines of Trentino: Mountain Elegance and Terroir
Where Alpine Wines Begin You walk the vineyard before anything is picked. Under the pergola, the canopy filters the light and slows the ripening a little. The ground is still wet from heavy overnight rain. It’s one of those seasons where timing has become harder to judge. You move along the row, noticing how unevenly […] The post The Alpine Wines of Trentino: Mountain Elegance and Terroir appeared first on Cellar Tours .

Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo
Undoubtedly, this eye catching bottle will be the first thing you notice. Cantina Zaccagnini has distinctively adorned this bottle with, what I assume, a piece of pruned vine and a beautifully scripted label. At least, when you head out to purchase your next bottle, you will find it on the shelf easy enough. That it […] The post Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo appeared first on winemusing .

Poderi Luigi Einaudi: A 125-Year Legacy and the 2022 Barolo Preview
The Soul of Dogliani in the Heart of Barolo: A 125-Year Journey with Poderi Luigi Einaudi There are moments in a wine writer’s journey where the past, present, and future converge in a single glass. Recently, I had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with Matteo Sardagna Einaudi to celebrate a monumental milestone: the 125th […] This post Poderi Luigi Einaudi: A 125-Year Legacy and the 2022 Barolo Preview was posted on WineDivaa .

Southern Hills (Tasting Abruzzo Diversity at Philly’s Le Virtù)
Back in October (yeah, yeah, I know, I KNOW…) I was invited to attend a media lunch at Philly’s excellent Le Virtù, focusing on the diversity of wines from Italy’s Abruzzo region. So of course I said no, thanks. JK. I wasn’t about to turn down something like that so close to my own (current) […] Source

Valtellina’s Vertical Challenge: Nebbiolo from the Alps
Holding the Slope In Gradi (“Degrees”), a documentary on Italian wine and climate change produced by the digital media company Will Media in collaboration with FIVI, the federation representing independent Italian winegrowers, there is a scene shot in the Valtellina region that sets the tone. Campanilismo in the Glass: Touring Central Italy for Cristaldi & Co.
A quick note to let you know that my inaugural piece for Cristaldi & Co. is now live, focusing on four producers that I visited in Central Italy (via media tour) in the Fall of 2025. Mount Etna’s Wine Revolution: The Burgundy of Sicily

Rediscovering Friuli: Italy’s Capital of Orange Wines
A Golden Glass on the Border In the northeastern part of Friuli Venezia Giulia, there are the rolling hills that locals call “Collio” on the Italian side and “Brda” on the Slovenian side. Vertical Elegance: The Age-worthy Whites of Alto Adige
Alto Adige’s best whites don’t just dazzle young: they age with poise. To quote Jacopo Cossater, “What strikes me about these wines is their stature. They keep their definition.“ the 2016 In der Låmm Pinot Bianco by Weingut Abraham, from independent wine magazine […] The post Vertical Elegance: The Age-worthy Whites of Alto Adige appeared first on Cellar Tours .

Small is Beautiful: Bulichella’s Distinctive Tuscan Coast Wines
This is not an easy time to be an Italian winemaker. There is climate change to deal with, of course, and the global fall in wine (and alcohol in general) consumption. Add to this the dramatic 28 percent decline in shipments of Italian wine to the U.S. market that has been reported recently by the […]

The Soave Renaissance: Veneto’s White Wine Revival
Learning to Trust My Own Taste When I first began writing travel stories for the Italian press, I often fell back on a kind of provincial reflex. European Wine Tourism Index 2025: Ranking Europe’s Leading Wine Destinations
Wine tourism represents one of the fastest-growing segments of global cultural and experiential travel. The Corkscrew Concierge’s August 2025 (In)Conspicous Consumption + Austrian Wine Spotlight
It's been a minute since I've written anything. I'd even sworn off social. To be honest, I was just tired of it. Between the death of my cousin who was like a sister to me, only 53, and like a 3rd parent to Thing 1 and Thing 2 (it’s been so hard for them), to totaling my car and the immense guilt associated with my son having some minor injuries, to so many other things that all seemed to crop up at once, I was numb. Lost. Listless. I literally was going through the motions, not wanting to do anything. I kept feeling this "responsibility" to The Corkscrew Concierge, which in and of itself was a problem. This was supposed to be a fun, creative outlet. But it had started to feel like work. I was uninspired. And then I was like "eff" this too. I seriously thought about just pulling the plug, but then decided to give it some time... And here we are again. I’ve again found some inspiration, some thoughtfulness. So what have we been drinking? Some good stuff. And interestingly enough, much o
