A new look at Domaine de la Mordorée
When tasting for the last Châteauneuf-du-Pape Report, I had the pleasure of a visit at Domaine de la Mordorée. As is often the case in the region, while they produce Châteauneuf wines, they aren’t located in Châteauneuf proper, but instead, across the Rhône in the village of Tavel which is famed for its unique style of rosé wines. Mordorée produces CdP there, as well as Tavel, Lirac, Côtes du Rhône, and a couple of Vin de France just to keep things interesting. The winery was originally founded by father and […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription.

The wines of Languedoc 2026
Even without the Roussillon bit tacked on to the end, the French region of Languedoc is an enormous producer of wine. Within Europe, it comes in at second place, with Castilla-La Mancha at number one, although this is a bit of a tricky comparison given that Spain’s juggernaut is three times the size in terms of land. As you can drive from one end of Languedoc to the other in about an hour and a half, it’s not necessarily tremendous when looking at the physical landscape. But, in terms of […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription.

Famille Quiot, Southern France
Accompanying this article is a small portfolio tasting of the wines from Famille Quiot, a family that lays claim to a winemaking history since the mid-18th century. I say ‘small’ as the parent company seems to have more than a dozen individual wineries and brands residing under it. The key item uniting all of them however is that they’re firmly Southern Rhône in origin. For example, there are at least six different Provençal-style rosés, of which I tasted half of them and yes, there is indeed a difference between them […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription .

Discovering Beaujonomie: An Immersive Beaujolais Wine Tasting in New York
Discovering Beaujonomie: An Immersive Beaujolais Wine Tasting in New York By Martha Cisneros Paja The world of wine is at its best when we strip away the rigid tasting grids and replace them with shared stories and full glasses. As a wine writer who frequently tastes side-by-side with producers, I find the most compelling stories […] This post Discovering Beaujonomie: An Immersive Beaujolais Wine Tasting in New York was posted on WineDivaa .

The real Isabel Ferrando
There exist several wine brands which have taken on the names of historic women and in the process, grown to rather mythic status with time. Perhaps the most famous is Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin aka Veuve Clicquot. She definitely deserves a far better and more accurate film of her life someday, but her name (or at least the widowed version of it) graces one of the most iconic Champagnes there is. Then, at the other end of the spectrum there’s Anna de Codorníu from the Cava ‘Jumbotron’, Codorníu and is, a ‘different’ […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription.

Cave des Vins de Sancerre – Les Chaillots 2024
I’m firmly of the opinion there are more Mormon Missionaries who have seen the inside of a stripclub than I have. I say that as in my three decades of strip club entrance ‘opportunity’, I’ve been into a total of one. Growing in up in the US and hearing Al Bundy on Married with Children talk up the “Nudie Bars”, I was, like many, raised on the premise that these bastions of female objectivization were something all true red-blooded males would surely enjoy. Yet, despite this, my sole experience left […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription.

The wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape & Gigondas 2026
In the middle of April, I made my way up to the Southern Rhône for the annual reports of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas; two of the leading regions overall for this very beautiful portion of France. I won’t mince my words, the arrival was rather grim as while going a month later made for much better weather, it also allowed to see the harsh reality that is the changing face of wine consumption. There were countless vineyards that hadn’t been pruned, which, at this point in the spring means that they’re […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription.

Domaine de Beaurenard – Tradition Rouge 2021
The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik came out it the later part of 1991 when I was just barely a teenager. I listened to it endlessly, the reason being that it was and continues to be a superb album. It’s amazing to look at the songs that didn’t make the original cut like “Soul to Squeeze” as they just didn’t fit in with the album as a whole, even if still good music. Rick Rubin did a fine job of massaging all the random genres that the […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription.

A review of “Drops of God” Season 2
The series “Drops of God” is back for another installment, this time with what feels like even higher production value and most importantly, correct wine information overall. Season 1 focused on the blind tasting competition set up by wine critic Alexandre Léger for his daughter, Camille Léger and illegitimate son, Issei Tomine. Now that we know they’re siblings, a new quest arrives in the form of a mysterious bottle that Alexandre wasn’t able to identify during his lifetime. Well, the dynamic half-sibling duo makes short work of that, zipping off […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription.

It’s the price, stupid
The week in Provence had begun shakily. Pounding rain and fierce Mistral on the drive up had lent a dreary start. But, it was a surprise hit of fierce allergies mixed with a very unfortunate breakfast at a hotel in Vaison-la-Romaine that stuck with me for all the wrong reasons which were making for a less-than-pleasing week in what is normally my favorite part of France. As the week rolled on, I just wanted a nice, menu de midi at a pleasant, normal restaurant. No emulsions, no deconstructions, no petit […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription.
