Every year on 31st July, rum enthusiasts, Royal Navy veterans and maritime history lovers around the world raise a glass in memory of one of the most poignant moments in British naval history: Black Tot Day. The anniversary of the last ever issue of the daily rum ration to Royal Navy sailors on 31st July […] The post Pusser’s Rum & Black Tot Day: Royal Navy’s Famous Tradition appeared first on Fareham Wine Cellar .

Roaming Road Spirits Guyana Rum 10 Year
Introduction Well we are back on the Roaming Road again. Roaming Road Spirits Guyana Rum 10 Year is being road tested today. I’ve reviewed one Roaming Road Spirits release before their 19 Year Old Haiti offering. Please take the time to read that review as I give a bit of background on the owner of... Moonshiners Institute Noctivagant
Introduction If Vagant was the introduction to what this Newcastle micro-distillery is trying to do, then Noctivagant feels like the next logical step. Very much in that same lane of flavour first, small scale production. This is their take on a dark rum, though not in the most traditional sense. You won’t find long tropical... JSR Spirits R1768 Rebel Dark Spiced Rum
Introduction Anyone reading this site regularly will know exactly where I stand on the Spiced Rum category. Supermarket shelves are completely saturated with overly sweetened Vanilla sugar bombs or Kraken imitators. I have grown completely fucking sick of seeing adverts on Social Media highlighting the “New Innovation” in the Rum World. Which 99 times out... Angostura Grand Reserve 1919
Introduction For me Angostura Grand Reserve 1919 occupies a strange, empty space in the rum market. To the uninitiated, it’s a Premium rum from Trinidad and Tobago. It’s a fixture on quite a few “luxury” backbars the world over. It is one of the few Caribbean rum producers that are omnipresent on the world market... Ron Zacapa Centenario Solera Gran Reserva
Introduction Ron Zacapa Centenario Solera Gran Reserva. If you walk into pretty much any supermarket, high-street specialist or (especially) an airport duty free shop today, you are going to see this bottle, with its little woven palm band. Ron Zacapa has been the poster boy for “Premium” rum for a very long time. For Ron... The post Ron Zacapa Centenario Solera Gran Reserva appeared first on thefatrumpirate.com .

Everything You Know About Dictador Is A Lie: The Great Rum Fabrication
There is a specific kind of insult reserved for the modern rum consumer. It doesn’t come from the producers who make bad liquid, we can forgive bad liquid, if it’s honest. It comes from the brands that look you dead in the eye, hand you a fabricated history, spike their fancy bottle with sugar (and... Roaming Road Spirits Haiti Rum 19 Year
Introduction Roaming Road Spirits Haiti Rum 19 Year Roaming Road Spirits are a relatively fresh face on the international scene, but the bloke pulling the strings, an American chap named Mike Gilmore, has been quietly building the foundation for this operation for nearly twenty years. Mike’s background isn’t the typical corporate suit story. Back in... The post Roaming Road Spirits Haiti Rum 19 Year appeared first on thefatrumpirate.com .

Mainland Rum Louisiana Aged 10 Years
Introduction Mainland Rum Louisiana Aged 10 Years. The American rum scene is currently going through a bit of a shake up. For years, domestic production was either overlooked or relegated to the bottom shelf, usually masked by a cocktail umbrella and a mountain of sugar. Seth Benhaim, the founder of Mainland Rum, is trying to... The post Mainland Rum Louisiana Aged 10 Years appeared first on thefatrumpirate.com .

Crossfire Hurricane Gold
Introduction So here we have it. Another celebrity backed spirit to dissect. Crossfire Hurricane Gold Jamaica Rum, brought to us by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and the rest of The Rolling Stones. Let us be clear. I am a fan of the band’s better output, but celebrity rums typically make me want to reach for... The post Crossfire Hurricane Gold appeared first on thefatrumpirate.com .

House of Rum Mauritius 2014
House of Rum Mauritius 2014. I am reviewing what I think is my first rum from La Rhumerie du Chamarel or Chamarel Distillery if you prefer (or are English speaking). I may have tasted some Chamarel in the past but I’ve never reviewed one. Mauritius and consequently Chamarel is a rum producing country that in […] The post House of Rum Mauritius 2014 appeared first on thefatrumpirate.com .

Master of Malt South Pacific Distillery Aged 13 Years
Master of Malt South Pacific Distillery Aged 13 Years. Independent bottlings from Fiji still feel a little under‑represented in the broader rum market. Which is a shame because they often sit in a very interesting space stylistically. This 13 Year Old from Master of Malt is a good example of that. It didn’t arrive with […] The post Master of Malt South Pacific Distillery Aged 13 Years appeared first on thefatrumpirate.com .

DropWorks Distillers Drop #002
DropWorks Distillers Drop #002. DropWorks are clearly not hanging about. Distillers Drop #002 arrives off the back of a debut that sold out quickly and earned a fair bit of attention. Rather than playing that safe they’ve leaned further into the experimental side of things. For Drop #002 they’ve gone down the Bordeaux Red wine […] The post DropWorks Distillers Drop #002 appeared first on thefatrumpirate.com .

Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva
Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. In many ways my days of reviewing these “kind” of rums should perhaps have been pretty much numbered. However, this website is now over 12 years old. Now I’ve seen plenty websites come and go in that time. So I’m having quite a good innings to use a cricketing (or rounders, sorry […] The post Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva appeared first on thefatrumpirate.com .

Raising Glasses Puyuma Renaissance Distillery Cognac Cask Rum
Raising Glasses Puyuma Renaissance Distillery Cognac Cask Rum. Renaissance Distillery continues to hold a near-mythical status among rum enthusiasts worldwide.
