LEARNING ABOUT WINE: Why Does Burgundy Have So Many Communes?
Why Does Burgundy Have So Many Communes? Burgundy can be difficult for new wine drinkers because it asks them to understand places before grapes. In many wine regions, the label begins with a grape name, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, or Pinot Noir. In Burgundy, the label often begins with a place: Bourgogne, Chablis, Gevrey-Chambertin, ... Wine Production in Fuissé: A History The village of Fuissé sits near the southern end of Burgundy’s limestone belt, where the vineyard land of the Côte d’Or and Côte Chalonnaise gives way, a few kilometers to the south, to the granitic terrain of Beaujolais. Bourgogne Prepares for an Early 2026 Vintage As canopy work intensifies and winegrowers struggle to keep pace with the rapid growth of the vines, Bourgogne is once again preparing for an August harvest. My French White and Sparkling Wine Picks at the Vancouver International Wine Festival 2026
I started my wine tasting at the International Festival Tasting Room during VanWineFest 2026 with French white and sparkling wines. Below are my favourite white and sparkling wines. I noticed after making my list that almost all the wines are made from the Chardonnay grape. I am not sure how many of these wines are still available for purchase, but...

February Wine Reviews: Rediscovering My Taste of Smell and Love of the Modern Bistro
Everything tastes better after a break. I took a pause from reviewing wines in January for the first time in over a year. It was much needed. While I only originally took the break to clear my head, I ended up needing sinus surgery, which basically meant I couldn’t drink wine for the entire month […]

Don’t call it Burgundy: How to find great wines for less from France’s Bourgogne region
Way back in the 1990s, when I began visiting “Burgundy,” as it was then commonly called, in France, it was not so easy to navigate the region’s many wine producers, villages and restaurants. There was little readily available information on the internet. English was rarely spoken and arranging tastings at the many small, family-owned domaines […]
