The wine is 96% Merlot with 4% Cabernet Franc. He describes it an “incredible fruit bomb” balanced by “lovely fresh acidity”. David scores the wine at 96-98/100. Château Trotanoy is located on the western side of the Pomerol plateau, not far from Pétrus and Lafleur, and covers 7.2 hectares (17.8 acres). It has been owned by négociant JP Moueix since 1953. According to Moueix the vineyard is planted entirely with Merlot, having previously featured a little Cabernet Franc. The wines still tend to include a small component of the latter. In the 18th Century, the estate was known as Trop Ennuie, or "Too Annoying", due to the poor, hard-to-work nature of the soils here. These are made up of clay with deposits of gravel and iron, and a

The wine is 62% Merlot with 26.2% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11.8% Cabernet Franc. It displays an array of plummy aromas and combines the year’s characteristic freshness with ripe fruit and supple tannins. David scores the wine at 97/100 but admits he may be being conservative. The property is in the northern Graves on the outskirts of Bordeaux, and is now surrounded by encroaching buildings and roads. It is also flanked by La Mission Haut-Brion, which was bought by Haut-Brion's owners in the early 1980s. The majority of the estate's 51 hectares (126 acres) of vineyard is planted to red varieties with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot covering 48 hectares
