This hillside property is located just to the north of Castillon la Bataille, not far from the border with Saint-Émilion. Unusually for Saint-Emilion three gravel outcrops feature prominently in the terroir, leading to a high percentage of the Cabernets in the wine. This edition is 38% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc. David scores the wine 96-97/100. Figeac's eponymous flagship wine (or "grand vin" as is often called) is known for its rich nose, silky texture and elegance, and for its aging potential in better vintages. The estate was rated as Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) in the 1955 Saint-Émilion Classification – a status it retained through every subsequent iteration of the classification until 2022, when it was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé (A). The wine is widely consi

Our list of best-value Bourbon has readers arriving in droves, all while the main wine news continues to swirl around just how well (or not) the wine industry is doing, globally. Other stories in the last 7 days include a group of wine investors assiduously avoiding 100-point wines, while there is still interest in Bordeaux 2025, not least from the value end of the offerings as well as a piece on how the weather in Bordeaux last year, although endlessly talked-about, isn't really being reflected in the wines. The weekend's last news also covers: González Byass in debt restructure talks; an indication that Argentina's newly deregulated wine industry might not be enjoying its new-found freedom; a massive Spanish wine fraud case involving nearly 2 million bottles of adulterated wine goes to court; French harvest this year may begin in early August; an investigation into the violent French direct-action winegrower group CRAV is thrown out of court; and an indication that non-alcoholic wi

This edition is 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc (not 80% as stated in the video). David scores the wine 95-96/100. Having sold his previous estate Château de Sours to Alibaba founder Jack Ma in 2016, Englishman Martin Krajewski purchased Séraphine. He immediately set about rebuilding the cellars and the house, before turning his attention to the vineyards. About 75 percent of the 2.2-hectare (5.4-acre) vineyard was pulled out and replanted. Krajewski also founded Songlines Estates in Australia, working with John Duval on the project from 2002 to 2012. He is a founding partner of Aristea Wines in South Africa, Clos Cantenac in Saint-Émilion, and the Oslo Distillery in Norway. Martin's daug

Just a few thousand bottles are made of this each year from two plots with lighter, sandier soils within the vineyard. This edition is 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc. David scores the wine 92-93/100. Château L'Église-Clinet is a small, critically acclaimed producer in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. Over recent vintages its average scores from critics have been some of the very highest in the region, and auction prices very much reflect this acclaim. Its 4.2 hectares (10 acres) of vines produce around 1500 cases of wine per year. The vineyard has some of the highest concentrations of old vines in Pomerol, although the estate starting replanting in

This edition is 87% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. David scores the wine 95-96/100 and feels he may be being conservative. Château La Conseillante is an acclaimed wine estate in the Pomerol district of Bordeaux, known for its Merlot-based grand vin. The vineyard is situated in the east of the appellation on the border with Saint-Émilion and adjoining properties include Château L'Évangile and Vieux Château Certan in Pomerol, and Cheval Blanc in Saint-Émilion to the southeast. This edition is a 50:50 blend of Merlot and old-vine Cabernet Franc. David scores the wine 95-96/100. Château Angélus is a well regarded wine estate based in the Saint-Emilion region of northeastern Bordeaux. The property sits on a coveted spot just west of Saint-Émilion town, on a gentle, south-facing slope on the Saint-Émilion plateau. It produces a sumptuous, long-lived Merlot - Cabernet Franc wine that is regularly highly rated by critics. The château was given its name due of the presence of nearby church bells (an "angélus" is a Roman Catholic prayer bell) that could be heard chiming from the original plots of vineyards. The current château now hosts a framework of small bells on its rooftop. The estate was famously

Château Cheval Blanc is a highly lauded wine estate in the Saint-Émilion region of northeast Bordeaux. It is certainly the most famous Cabernet Franc-based wine in the world, albeit often alongside very similar levels of Merlot. Typically, the "grand vin" (the estate's eponymous wine) is lush and full bodied with great weight of fruit. It tends to require ten years of bottle age and the best vintages can last half a century or more. The second wine of the estate is Le Petit Cheval. Once a competitor of its neighbor Haut Brion, it is now under the same ownership. The wine is 58.3% Merlot with 38.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Cabernet Franc. The wine is dense and dark, with fresh, bright plum and cherry, supple tannins and mouthwatering acidity. It is likely to age well for several decades but may be supple enough to be accessible in 4 to 5 years. David scores the wine at 95-96/100. Château La Mission Haut-Brion’s near-neighbor and sister estate Château Haut-Brion was the only property from the region featured in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. But La Mission Haut-Brion (rated a Graves Grand Cru i
videoHopes and fears in the US wine market - The Week in Wine, Episode 38
The week is dominated by interest in the US wine market, with three W. Blake Grey stories driving readership. The stories span the current state of the market with recommendations that the number of wineries in the US drop to accommodate the size of the market; there is a glimmer of hope in the resolution of tariff disputes and the slowing of the decline (!) in the market; and there could be progress from Ohio on the much-debated efficacity of the three-tier system. News of wine-searcher's new owner also helps to drive readership as does our list of the world's most-wanted wines. A report from Bordeaux's Right Bank also has Don getting thirsty. Meanwhile, Olly's wine news covers: supermarkets in France trailing AI wine-merchant kiosks to help shoppers; a new medieval winemaking computer game is released; a French cooperage branches out into home décor (with some rather attractive tables); more hope in the US wine market; France's struggle to officially adopt/adapt to drones being use

▶️ Learn more about this wine and past vintages: https://www.wine-searcher.com/find/le+pin+pomerol+bordeaux+france?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=enprimeurdcmw David is excited to review an En-Primeur sample of the 2025 Le Pin, one of the most famous wines of Pomerol. The wine is 100% Merlot with 4% Cabernet Franc. He describes aromas showing a ”beautiful essence of red and black fruit” and a palate which is a “sensual experience”. David scores the wine at 98/100, possibly conservatively. Le Pin is a tiny 2.7-hectare (6-acre) property in the Pomerol district of Bordeaux. It was created in 1979 by the Thienpont family (owners of nearby Vieux Château Certan) and quickly rose to prominence to vie for the title of most expensive wine in the world. The 100 percent Merlot wine is extremely concentrated and lush; it can often be drunk young but is best with a decade of aging. The Le Pin vineyard is south-facing and sits on well-drained gravel and sand soils which
