videoCan You Judge Wine By The Bottle?
They say don't judge a book by its cover, but when you're staring at a wall of wine bottles about to spend $20-$150, what else can you do? Today, we're testing if cool packaging actually means good wine. The Challenge: Six wines, all with interesting or "dynamic" packaging. We taste them blind first, then reveal the bottles to see if the packaging matches the quality inside. The Premise: Wine shopping is risky. You can't flip through the pages. You read labels, feel the weight, talk to the staff, but ultimately you're judging by the bottle. Does packaging predict quality? What We Found: Some cool bottles = great wine Some cool bottles = disappointing wine Some boring bottles = excellent wine One $150 bottle looked like a clean skin Clear bottles, artist collaborations, metallic labels, traditional designs - none of it guaranteed quality The Verdict: Packaging doesn't predict quality. The coolest bottles don't always have the best wine. The most boring bottles can hide gems. The T

videoWe Tasted 306 Wines to Find the Best One
We tasted 306 wines across 14 countries in 2025. This is our year in review—the best wines, the worst wines, the biggest surprises, and the wine that took out Wine of the Year. videoMcLaren Vale Grenache: Worth The Hype?
Grenache has three homes: Spain (where it's called Garnacha), southern France, and increasingly, McLaren Vale in South Australia. Today we're tasting six flagship Grenache wines from McLaren Vale's top producers to see if this region really is the future of the variety. In Memory of Pete Fraser: As we celebrate McLaren Vale Grenache, we want to acknowledge Pete Fraser, the visionary winemaker behind Yangarra, who sadly passed away recently. Pete was instrumental in elevating McLaren Vale Grenache to world-class status and his legacy lives on in every bottle. His dedication to whole bunch winemaking, organic viticulture, and showcasing what this region can do has inspired an entire generation of winemakers. Rest in peace, Pete. Your impact on Australian wine is immeasurable. What Is Grenache? One of the great grape varieties of the world. Traditionally grown in hot climates, known for red fruit flavors, silky tannins, and when done right, incredible elegance and structure. McLaren Val

videoThe Australian Grape That Almost Went Extinct (The Tarrango Story)
In 1972, Australian scientists at CSIRO designed a grape variety specifically for our climate. It was high-yielding, low-maintenance, drought-resistant, and produced wine with perfect acidity in hot conditions. Then we almost destroyed it completely. This is the story of Tarrango, and why we nearly forgot about our own science. videoWhat Does A Sommelier Actually Do?
The sommelier is one of the most well-known jobs in the wine industry, but most people don't actually know what they do. If you've ever wondered what happens when that wine professional approaches your table at a restaurant, or how someone becomes a sommelier, this guide is for you. What Is A Sommelier? In a nutshell, a sommelier is a wine waiter. They're the person who helps you navigate the wine list, recommends wines based on your preferences and food, and makes sure your glass stays full throughout your meal. What They Actually Do: ✓ Help you find wines that suit your taste, budget, and meal ✓ Present and serve wine properly ✓ Check wines for faults (cork taint, volatile acidity, brett, mousiness) ✓ Create and manage the restaurant's wine list ✓ Meet with wine sales reps and taste new releases ✓ Do stock takes and place wine orders ✓ Work with chefs to create wine pairings for set menus ✓ Ensure every customer's wine experience is excellent Important: The Tasting Ritual When a

videoThe Best Cava I've Ever Had (Spanish Wine Tasting)
Six wines, one country, and we have to guess where they're from. Spoiler: we were way off, and these wines were way better than expected. Spain is maybe the largest wine-producing country in the world, but it often flies under the radar compared to France, Italy, and Germany. Today we're tasting six Spanish wines completely blind to see if we can identify them—and more importantly, if they're any good. What we tasted: Six wines ranging from sparkling to orange to red. The styles were all over the place, which made guessing the country incredibly difficult. Our guesses: Brendan: Italy Noah: France Henry: China (seriously) The reality: Spain. All of them. The Verdict: These are probably the most compelling Spanish wines we've had on the show. That Cava? Game-changing. The Priorat wines? Spectacular. The budget reds? Incredible value. Key Moments: Henry thinking it was China imitating France "Burger rings" and "wheat bix" aroma descriptors for Comando G Discovering the best Cava we

We're flying to North America for the biggest Bottle Shock adventure yet. This is happening. Here's everything you need to know. videoAre You Storing Your Wine Wrong?
You don't need a dusty cellar or a mansion to store wine properly. This is your 2025 guide to smart, simple wine storage that'll make sure every bottle you buy tastes awesome—whether you open it next week or next year. Wine is alive, and if you treat it rough, it's going to taste worse (or at least prevent it from tasting better). This isn't about hoarding wines for decades—it's about getting maximum enjoyment from that $20 gem or special occasion bottle. The Sinister 6 (Actually 5) Enemies of Wine: Temperature - Public enemy #1. Heat speeds up aging in all the wrong ways. The magic number? 13°C (55°F). Consistency is king—avoid wild temperature swings. Light - Wine is basically a vampire. UV rays cause "light strike" making your wine smell like wet cardboard. Keep it in the dark. Humidity - For natural corks, aim for 60-70% humidity. Too dry = cork shrinks = oxygen gets in = oxidized wine. Orientation & Vibration - Lay bottles with natural corks on their side to keep the cork mo
videoHow We Turn Grapes Into Wine (Vintage Update)
Vintage 2025 has begun, and we're giving you an inside look at how grapes actually become wine. This is week one of harvest, and it's been hard and fast—every day this week the team has been crushing, processing, and pressing fruit. This year's vintage is early by about a week or two, and it's unusually compressed, meaning everything is happening at once. Welcome to the chaos. What you'll see: ✓ Machine-harvested Fiano grapes from the Riverland (they look like little hand grenades after pressing) ✓ Our grape receiver system with the shaker that separates free-run juice immediately ✓ The press with a pneumatic bag that gently extracts juice ✓ A peristaltic pump that works like your esophagus (seriously the best pump for this job) ✓ Variable capacity tanks where we ferment and store wine ✓ Why we sometimes leave white grapes on skins overnight ✓ How we separate free run juice from pressed juice (and why it matters) The Equipment Breakdown: The grape receiver/elevator system we use is

videoI Bought A Dozen Of Nearly Every Wine (Blind Tasting)
This might be the best blind tasting lineup we've ever had. Different Drop sent us six wines from wine making legends around the world, and we ended up buying a dozen of almost every single wine. Usually in these tastings, I'm hunting for something to give a dozen to. This time? I was hunting for something I didn't want a dozen of. Out of six wines, the scores were: dozen, dozen, dozen, dozen, dozen, six. That's how good this lineup was. What we tasted: Six wines from legendary producers across the globe—sparkling, whites, orange, and reds. From $49 to $165. The South African Redemption: Yes, this was blind. No, we didn't know it was South African when we called it our wine of the lineup. The best Cinsault I've ever had—it tastes like really good French Pinot, great Australian Grenache, or as it turns out, incredible South African Cinsault. Sometimes you need to be proven wrong, and we're here for it. The Verdict: When wine-making legends live up to their names, you buy the wine. S
