Today we explore the highest village in the Barolo area, known for its panoramic views and some of the most elegant expressions of Nebbiolo. In this series, we’ll focus on each single village of the Langhe, understanding the terroir, flying over the most famous vineyards and naming some of the most iconic producers. Located on a hilltop at about 513 meters above sea level, La Morra dominates the western side of the Barolo region. With around 2,700 residents, it’s one of the largest villages in the area and has long been a strategic point for controlling the surrounding valleys. Today, it’s equally famous for its postcard views — from the Alps in the distance to the sea of vineyards rolling below. La Morra is home to about 1/3 of all Barolo vineyards, with nearly 850 hectares planted to Nebbiolo, making it the single largest contributor to the appellation.
