videoOur Commitment to Sustainable Farming
How do you grow healthy vines? Look first to the soil. Hear Mauro Maldonado and David Gates talk about how our sustainable and organic farming methods all aim to limit inputs. It all starts now, in winter, by fostering healthy soils using a little bit of house-made compost (using last year's leftovers!) and cover crops (tailored to each vineyard block). The benefits of regenerative farming methods extend beyond the vines. It seeks to conserve and renew natural resources, protect wildlife habitats, and ensure the safety and economic security of our employees, too. Limestone is not found in the well-known Cabernet producing areas of Napa and Sonoma Valleys, making the soil composition at Monte Bello a unique and important contributor to the wine’s distinctive character. The combination of elevation, cool climate, and soil produces a wine that is impeccab

Michael Bairdsmith, Assistant Winemaker at Lytton Springs, talks a bit about why our farming and winemaking techniques set us apart.
