Beloved Portland cidery Alter Ego rebooting under new female-ownership
This story was developed in partnership with Cidercraft Magazine Just as Superman’s alter ego is Clark Kent and Peter Parker’s is Spider-Man, Alter Ego Cider was winemaker Anne Ebenreiter Hubatch’s beloved side project to Helioterra Wines. The alter ego cider taproom closed amidst the pandemic in 2021 , and the cidery was officially retired in 2023 . When Anne Hubatch moved to Wiscons in in 2025 that seemed to be the end of the sto ry for the belov ed Portland cidery. But in a Hollywood-esque reboot, the AlterEgo Cider mantle has been picked up by two new Portland entrepreneurs who have relaunched the brand with a fresh new enthusiasm and look. First look at Tiny Giants Brewing debut in Northeast Portland
Tiny Giants Brewing is growing, one of our most anticipated new Oregon breweries or taprooms of 2026 has opened their first brick-and-mortar location in Portland’s Woodlawn neighborhood at 6719 NE 18th Ave. Founded by former Fracture Brewing head Brewer and Cascade Brewing alumni Steve Beaudoin, Tiny Giants first launched one-year-ago initially producing all of their beers at the no longer in use Gorges Brewing location at 2705 SE Ankeny. The time between securing their own location paid off in establishing their brand in the local market with 16oz cans and draft distributed through Day One Distro. The new permanent Tiny Giants location has a colorful open floor plan taproom shared with a 10-barrel brewing system just behind the bar. For the Oregon Beer Awards the New School co-produces a comedic sketch video each year with Willamette Week, the ceremony emcees, and a local filmmaker. For the 2026 Oregon Beer Awards ceremony we teamed up with acclaimed director Dawn J. ForeLand Beer negotiating move from McMinnville to Upright Brewing
ForeLand Beer owner David Sanguinetti pulls a cask beer at Upright Brewing ForeLand Beer , a McMinnville, Oregon based brewery with a taproom in Portland, is closing their brewery and center of operations later this year. Located at 777 NE 4th St, the ForeLand Beer real estate has been sold to a new owner and the brewery will exit when their lease is up leaving the brand in a temporary limbo pending a big move. ForeLand Beer is in negotiations at the Leftbank Project development in Portland to take over the former Upright Brewing location at 240 N Broadway which closed in December 2024. Foreland, which was founded in 2020 by brewer Sean Burke and McMinnville brewery and taproom owner David Sanguinetti (The Bitter Monk, Allegory Brewing) won the Oregon Beer Awards Best New Brewery of the Year in 2021. The 11th annual Oregon Beer Awards winners were announced last night at Revolution Hall in Portland, Oregon revealing the creme of the crop in one of the best brewing regions in the world. As usual the 2026 Oregon Beer Awards are a highly competitive and meticulously judged event that attracts national attention in both quality of judges and in inspiring other state-wide competitions. By the numbers: 972 entries from 104 breweries across the state (983 beers were registered; 972 were received and judged. Pix Pâtisserie’s The Big Portland Bake Show is casting for Reality-TV inspired foodie competition event
Portland foodie news from beloved local desserts bakery Pix Pâtisserie hosting a new summer event - The Big Portland Bake Show. Inspired by the popular UK reality TV show the Great British Bake Off, The Big Portland Bake Show is now accepting cast applications to participate in the events which will be held in their courtyard at 2225 E Burnside St. Six aspiring amateur bakers will come together each month for a series of two-day friendly competitions in the tent. Each group of contestants will compete in three challenges: Signature, Technical and Showstopper. One will be named Star Baker and an ultimate winner will take home a 6qt kitchen stand mixer. While contestants are mixing away, spectators from the public are encouraged to come cheer them on. Audience participation will be highly encouraged, with spectator challenges in the tent, audience judging and plenty of games (which means plenty of prizes!) Admission is free and all ages.
